CyberTracker Instructions

Installing software on your PC and PDA
1....Install the Cybertracker 3.102 program on your PC by clicking on the file you have downloaded from the Internet.
2....Run Cybertracker by selecting the professional or standard version from your desktop where the shortcuts have been installed.
3....Import the application into the PC-version of Cybertacker. This is done by selecting "File" and "Import". Browse to the file that you have downloaded from the Natural World website. Follow the instructions.
4....Select the following menu items:
a) On the main menu bar ensure that "Report" is selected and on the same bar on the right "Query Editor" (not "Map 9").
b) You will now see an Excel type table - your records will be displayed here as soon as you have recorded them.
5....Save the database by selecting "File" and "Save database as". Enter a file name and directory - it is best to save the database under the "My Cybertracker Databases" folder.

Download the application to your PDA
1....Connect your PDA and PC via Active Sync
2....Select "Sequences" from the top menu and then select "Active Sync" on the menu bar. Follow the instructions. The first time you will have to do this twice. Later on only once. Check on your PDA that the program is loaded by selecting the program on your PDA.

Logging data
1....Activate your GPS
2....You can now log your bird sightings on your PDA. Press the black arrows to navigate from screen to screen. Use your stylus to select your choices, enter number or type on the keyboard.
3....After you have entered the data that you want to record for a sighting click on the black arrow with a line next to it - the PDA will connect to your GPS and save the record. You can now log the next sighting.
4....You can view the status of satellites by selecting the white triangle with a horizontal line through it.
5....You can view your sightings by selecting the black circle.

Downloading your data to the PC
1....After you have logged your sightings, connect your PDA to your PC through Active Sync. Your sightings will automatically be transferred to your Cybertracker Database on your PC.
2....Open your CyberTracker program on your PC. Select "Open Database" and select your database. On the main menu bar make sure that "Report" is selected and on the same bar on the right "Query editor" and not "map 9".
3....You will be able to view your data in the table.

Exporting your data
1....While in the table view select "Export View" on the menu bar.
2....Select Excel as the File Type and enter a file name and location to save the file. Press OK.
3....The data is now available in Excel for you to view.
4....If you would like to see your sightings on the Background of the Maps, you can now forward this file by email to NaturalWorld

Overview

An application has been written that you can use with Cybertracker to Log birds in Southern Africa. The software is for free, but if possible please send your sightings to the NaturalWorld project to share them with others.

Hardware
1....PDA (Microsoft)
2....GPS-receiver that can communicate with your PDA (via Blue Tooth)
or with a build-in GPS.
3....PC with Microsoft Active Sync (the program you use to link your PC with the PDA)

Free User-Level Upgrades

Also remember that if you Submit your data here we will upgrade you to higher User Levels. We upgrade all who submit 50 or more sightings to Silver, or 100 or more to Gold. This provides access to much more background datasets which shows more details about where the sightings are being seen.
